We are delighted to share that the Forestry Commission has officially approved our application to create a new woodland in Alfrick. This marks a major milestone in a journey that began three years ago.
The land was purchased in 2022, and in 2023 we began restoring the ancient orchard with a staff tree-planting day. Since then, we have worked closely with Tilhill Forestry to develop a comprehensive woodland design and maintenance plan. Our goal has been to ensure the new woodland complements the local landscape, is financially sustainable, and maximises carbon sequestration.
Following a public engagement period earlier this year, the second stage of our proposal was submitted to the Forestry Commission in June. We are pleased to report that not only was our plan approved, but we have also secured financial support through the England Woodland Creation Offer. This grant will cover the full cost of planting, 15 years of maintenance, and 60% of the required infrastructure work.
This endorsement confirms that our woodland design meets the high standards expected for new woodland creation in England. The achievement follows the hard work of Development Manager Craig Herrick, whose expertise and dedication were instrumental in identifying the land and managing neighbour relations throughout the process. Special thanks also go to Heather Alexander, Prime’s Communications and Community Engagement Manager, who worked tirelessly to keep the community informed and engaged.
In total, we will be planting 13,301 trees and staff will be taking part in a planting session to begin this exciting new chapter.
