Sustainability and social good

Doing what’s right

A force for good

Since our inception, we have challenged ourselves to deliver adaptable, sustainable spaces that work towards a future of outstanding care.

Sustainability drives each Prime development, creating a positive imprint on the planet and enabling people to live healthier lives. We believe we have a responsibility to develop this influence even further through our supply chain, partnerships and across the communities we serve.

Building a future of environmental wellbeing requires action right now, which is why in 2021 we introduced a series of sustainable targets. These goals support our commitment to outstanding care, now and in the future, contributing to a healthy environment for everyone.

Achieved

To be carbon neutral (scope 1 and 2) by the end of 2022.

Achieved

Delivering our first net-zero embodied carbon development project on-site in 2023.

Development projects have a biodiversity net gain of 15% for projects starting in 2024

Building a better future

Sustainability in motion with Prime

As developers, we have a responsibility to deliver solutions that look beyond what is needed now and instead seek to build a future of environmental wellbeing. We strive to find innovative solutions that ensure each Prime development has a positive impact on the planet and enables people to live healthier lives. We cannot achieve this alone; we work in partnership with our suppliers, clients, end users and the communities surrounding our developments to gain a deeper understanding of what meaningful change looks like and the challenges we may encounter in achieving it.

Enhancing our commitment to sustainable development

We are B Corp Certified

In October 2022, Prime became B Corp certified following a 16-month application process. The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’s operations and covers five key impact areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.

Prime is now part of a community of 5,990 businesses globally that have certified as B Corps. You can read more about Prime’s journey to certification here.

Sustainable construction

Sustainable construction

Prime creates flexible and adaptable spaces through conscious design and sustainable construction. For over two decades, we have been applying the leading sustainability assessment method, BREEAM, to our developments, reaching ‘excellent’ standards in brownfield site management.

Our continued commitment to driving sustainability across each Prime development is embodied by the businesses we work with, the materials we use, our supply chain, and the lives we impact. From the land we build on to the energy it takes to construct and finish our developments, each project in our portfolio is designed to deliver sustainable health and care environments now and in the long term.

Social good

We believe outstanding care is only possible when the creation of health and care spaces considers the people who will use them. But as communities develop and grow, health and care environments must also adapt.

Prime makes a positive contribution to the environment by designing projects that enhance the location, landscape and flow of physical spaces. As informed by recent research, our spaces have a positive impact on the mental and physical wellbeing of the people who interact with them. Our commitment to enhancing lives and communities is embodied by the Prime Foundation – a charity that supports social projects in places we work in throughout the UK.

Carbon reduction plan

Carbon Reduction Plan

We are committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by the end of 2030, within the reporting requirements of clients, the government and the NHS.

Achieving a Net Zero position by 2030 is an enormous task for the business and not something we can achieve alone. Our guiding principles to help us implement the objectives are:

  • Incorporate standardised robust measurement methodologies into the project design and development processes.
  • Educate all partners on their roles in meeting our objectives.
  • Embrace cost-effective market innovations.
