Belong Care Village scoops RICS Award for community benefit

The Belong Care Village in Newcastle-under-Lyme, developed and funded by Prime, has claimed the top prize at this year’s Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) West Midlands Awards in the Community Benefit category.

The RICS Awards recognise the most innovative projects in the region. The Belong Care Village was up against strong competition in the Community Benefit category, which honours projects that engage the community and improve public access to facilities.

However, the project shone through and representatives from Prime and Belong were at the awards dinner in Birmingham on 8 May to accept the honours on behalf of the project team.

Prime Development Director, Bob Smaylen said: “We are delighted that the Belong Care Village has won the RICS award for Community Benefit. It was a challenging project for the development team but the end result has exceeded all our expectations. The Belong Care Village has not only transformed a forgotten area of Newcastle-under-Lyme, but it’s also instilled a sense of great pride in the community and its fantastic that this remarkable impact has been recognised in the industry.”

Prime worked as an investment and development partner to the not-for-profit care operator Belong, to bring the complex scheme to fruition. The project had also been shortlisted in the Regeneration category at the RICS Awards, recognising the scheme’s exceptional improvements made to the local area.
