When the Rivers Tawe and Clydach overflowed, the resulting floods caused so much damage it condemned the occupants of Pontardawe’s health centre to years in portable cabins until the GPs approached Prime to help them.

Keen to minimise disruption to patients, the project team decided the best option was to build the new facility on the site of the old one. Prime liaised with the Environment Agency to seek reassurance on flood defences and determine the height of the new building’s ground floor level to keep it safely above the flood line. Prime also phased construction to allow patient services to remain operational on site throughout the build. The result is a modern, flexible health centre that enables effective multidisciplinary working incorporating general practice, chiropody, community mental health, dentistry and speech therapy.

Prime’s approach during the design phase was marvellous. The practice has always been well respected in the area but it helps inspire confidence when you’ve got a building like this and people walk in and think: Wow – this is wonderful!”
